Job summary

UC San Diego's Department of Medicine invites a Research Associate to maintain a stem cell biology/cardiac research lab and perform a range of laboratory procedures.

Responsibilities include hESC/hiPSC maintenance, differentiation into cardiomyocytes, FACS, immunohistochemistry, imaging, and molecular biology techniques such as CRISPR, RT-PCR, and nucleic acid purification. The role involves protocol development, record-keeping, and assisting students and senior scientists.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology or closely related field; education and experience may be equivalent.
• Experience with tissue culture, particularly hESCs/hiPSCs.
• Experience differentiating hESCs/iPSCs into cardiomyocytes and other cardiac lineages.
• Knowledge of FACS/flow cytometry.
• Experience using CRISPR for stem cell line generation.
• Live cell imaging of cardiomyocytes.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with lab data management and word processing.
• Knowledge of lab equipment maintenance and safety procedures.
• Familiarity with imaging/analysis software (ImageJ, Photoshop, Halo, Nikon).
• Ability to maintain accurate lab records.

Responsibilities

• Maintain stem cell biology/cardiac lab and perform a variety of procedures.
• Train and guide laboratory staff as needed.
• Assist PhD students, post-docs and senior scientists with sample collection and measurements.
• Perform end-point analysis and troubleshoot experiments.
• Maintain equipment and inventory, order supplies, and manage records.
