Job summary

Alkar Steel is seeking a Steel Slitter Operator Assistant for first shift (usually 6am-2:30pm+). You will assist the operator in slitting steel to work orders and customer specs, with full benefits and a pay rate of $19.00–$20.50 per hour depending on experience.

Opportunity to learn setup and advance to operator; quarterly bonuses indexed to performance are available. The role requires setting up arms, verifying widths, and moving material with cranes or lift trucks as licensed, while

Qualifications

• Read and understand work instructions.
• Willingness to maintain positive communications with team members.
• General math concepts and measurements are used daily.

Responsibilities

• Set-up over arms according to work order and customer specifications.
• Verify width/gauge readings.
• Move material using overhead cranes and/or lift trucks (if licensed).
• Assist on machine operation when time permits.
• Train and orient new employees for your area.
• Ensure 100% cleanliness of tooling.
• Work closely with foreman to resolve problems.
• Support quality, environmental and safety systems.
• Carry out any other duties assigned.
• First-level authority to stop the process and report issues to management.
