Job summary

Alkar Steel in Warren, MI is hiring a Steel Slitter Operator Assistant on the first shift (usually 6am-2:30pm+). You will assist the operator in slitting steel per work orders and customer specs, with overtime to learn set-up and eventually back-up operator duties.

We offer a full benefits package and a pay rate from $19.00-$20.50 per hour depending on experience, with room to grow in the future. There is also potential for quarterly bonuses indexed to performance.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform essential functions with accommodations.
• Read and understand work instructions.
• Willingness to maintain positive communications with team.
• Understand fractions and basic math.

Responsibilities

• Set-up over arms according to work order and customer’s specifications.
• Verify width/gauge readings.
• Move material using overhead cranes and/or lift trucks (when licensed).
• Assist on machine operation when time permits.
• Train and orient new employees in your area.
• Ensure 100% cleanliness of tooling.
• Work with foreman to resolve problems.
• Support the quality, environmental and safety systems.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.
