Job summary

Alkar Steel is seeking a Steel Slitter Operator Assistant for the first shift (usually 6am-2:30pm+). The role primarily supports the operator in slitting steel to work orders and customer specs.

Includes potential growth as you learn setup and operation, with room to advance to backup operator or operator. We offer a full benefits package and a pay rate from $19.00-$20.50 per hour depending on experience, plus quarterly bonuses indexed to performance.

Qualifications

• Read and understand work instructions.
• Basic math and measurement
• Willingness to learn and follow safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Set-up overhead arms per work order and customer specs.
• Verify width/gauge readings.
• Move material using overhead cranes and/or lift trucks (when licensed).
• Assist operator with machine operation as needed.
• Train new employees in the area.
• Maintain cleanliness of tooling.
• Collaborate with foreman to resolve issues.
• Support quality, environmental and safety systems.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.
• First-level authority to stop the process and report problems.
