Job summary

Qualdoc is seeking a Steel Fabrication Quality Inspector in Richmond, VA to inspect structural steel during fabrication and before shipment. The role requires reading shop drawings, applying AWS D1.1/D1.5 as applicable, and ensuring workmanship meets drawings and specs.

Contract-to-hire with first shift, Monday–Friday, starting pay $31/hour, overtime on Saturdays as needed. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years experience in structural steel fabrication and inspection, with welding cert preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Location: Richmond, VA
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire

Position Summary

Seeking an experienced Quality Inspector for structural steel fabrication. This role focuses on checking fabricated steel throughout production, verifying dimensions and workmanship, and ensuring completed work meets drawings, specifications, and applicable quality standards.

Senior-level structural steel fitters or fabricators with strong inspection and quality experience may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect structural steel components during fabrication and before shipment.
• Check materials and finished work against shop drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
• Perform in-process and final quality inspections.
• Verify dimensions, layout, and proper part placement.
• Identify, document, and follow up on nonconforming work.
• Apply AWS D1.1/D1.5 requirements when applicable.
• Work closely with fabrication and production teams to address quality concerns.
• Support quality improvement efforts and maintain inspection documentation.
• Assist with preparation for annual AISC quality-control audits.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication and layout.
• Experience performing quality inspections in a structural steel environment.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication and construction drawings.
• Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication practices and quality requirements.
• Welding certification or experience related to AWS D1.1 and/or D1.5 preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify fabrication or dimensional issues.
