Position Overview

A well-established, family-owned steel fabrication company is seeking a Steel Detailer to join its drafting team. This is an opportunity to work on custom architectural and miscellaneous metal projects, including steel stairs, railings, and ornamental metalwork, while developing your technical skills alongside experienced professionals.

Candidates with a structural steel detailing background are encouraged to apply. The team is willing to train the right person on architectural and miscellaneous metals detailing, provided they have a solid foundation in steel construction, AutoCAD, and shop drawings.

Key Responsibilities

• Review architectural and design drawings, project takeoffs, and specifications.
• Create detailed shop drawings that translate design intent into clear fabrication instructions.
• Prepare drawings for custom steel stairs, railings, ornamental metalwork, and other miscellaneous metal components.
• Submit shop drawings for architect review and approval.
• Incorporate architect comments, make revisions, and resubmit drawings as needed.
• Release approved drawings to the fabrication shop.
• Coordinate with the drafting team and Director of Drafting to maintain drawing accuracy and production readiness.
• Manage assigned projects through the detailing and approval process, keeping drawings organized and revisions current.

Required Qualifications

• At least 2 years of steel detailing or relevant steel construction drafting experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Ability to interpret architectural or design drawings and develop fabrication-ready shop drawings.
• Understanding of steel construction, dimensions, materials, and fabrication requirements.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to work fully onsite in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience detailing architectural or miscellaneous metals, including stairs, railings, and ornamental steel.
• Structural steel detailing experience; training on miscellaneous metals can be provided.
• Familiarity with Tekla or other steel detailing software.
• A degree or formal training in drafting and design.
• Experience in commercial construction or a union fabrication environment.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual salary of $70,000-$80,000, depending on experience.
