Job summary

ORNL is seeking a Facilities Engineer focused on Steam Plant Systems within the Mechanical Utilities Complex. The role requires engineering expertise to manage and optimize steam production and distribution, electrical distribution, and related utilities in a high-safety environment.

Ideal candidates will have a background in mechanical utilities, strong communication skills, and the ability to lead small to medium projects while coordinating with operations, maintenance, and subcontractors.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Minimum five years of experience in a utility/power plant environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance for directing maintenance, modifications, or outage activities to preserve safety and environmental controls.
• Promote frequent communication with customers, craft workers, and utility staff.
• Support predictive/preventative maintenance programs.
• Incorporate worker safety and environmental protection into planning and execution.
• Provide engineering oversight of mechanical utilities projects and manage small to medium projects.
• Support development of energy conservation strategies and efficiency improvements.
• Maintain project documentation and regulatory records.
• Work independently while ensuring compliance with standards and policies.
