Job summary

New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) is seeking a Steam Fitter's Helper to support the Division of School Facilities in installing, maintaining, and repairing piping, boilers, and related equipment for heating, steam, and cooling systems across NYCPS facilities.

The role involves assisting with layout from plans, and may require welding/brazing. A minimum of three years' mechanical experience or equivalent through trade school is required, with a NY driver license potentially needed.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time satisfactory mechanical experience as a Steam Fitter's Helper (within last ten years).
• Alternative: 1.5 years of related experience plus training from approved trade/vocational/technical high school to reach three years equivalent.
• Six months credit for each year of approved trade school.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of piping, controls and equipment for heating, compressed air, refrigerating, air conditioning, steam and hot water systems, and fire suppression/cooling/sprinkler systems.
• Assist in installation of boilers, feedwater, vacuum and condensate equipment, fuel oil piping, and related auxiliary equipment.
• Assist with the layout of work from plans, specifications, and sketches.
• Assist with welding and brazing equipment when needed.
