Job summary

The City of New York’s Building Maintenance Section is seeking a Steam Fitter's Helper to support the repair and maintenance of more than 250 facilities citywide. Under supervision, you will assist with piping and equipment for heating, air conditioning, and processing systems across department facilities.

Qualifications

• Three years of full‑time satisfactory mechanical experience as a Steam Fitter’s Helper acquired within the last 10 years; or at least 1.5 years plus sufficient training to total three years with trade schooling.
• Six months of experience credited for each year of approved trade, vocational or technical school.

Responsibilities

• Assist in piping and equipment for heating, air conditioning, compressed air and processing systems.
• Assist in installation, maintenance and repair of piping and equipment in heating, air conditioning and processing systems.
• Assist in installation of boilers, feedwater, vacuum and condensate equipment.
• Assist in installation of fuel oil piping and related equipment.
• Take on‑the‑job measurements and lay out work from plans or sketches.
• May drive a motor vehicle in performance of duties.
• Perform related work.
