Job summary

The New York City Police Department’s Building Maintenance Section seeks a Steam Fitter’s Helper to assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of piping and equipment for heating, air conditioning and processing systems, under direct supervision.

The role requires meeting the minimum qualifications, may involve driving a city vehicle, and offers access to the 55-a Program, federal loan forgiveness programs, NYC residency rules, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time mechanical experience as a Steam Fitter’s Helper acquired within the last 10 years.
• At least 1.5 years of full-time mechanical experience plus trained in a relevant trade or technical schooling to total three years of acceptable experience; six months of applicable training credited per year of school.

Responsibilities

• Assists in piping and equipment work for heating, air conditioning, compressed air and processing systems.
• Assists in installation, maintenance and repair of piping and equipment in steam, hot water heating, air conditioning and processing systems.
• Assists in installation of boilers, feedwater, vacuum and condensate equipment.
• Assists in installation of fuel oil piping and related equipment.
• Takes on-the-job measurements and lays out work from plans, specs, or sketches.
• May drive a city vehicle in the performance of duties.
• Performs related work.
