Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory is seeking a Network Effects Engineer to advance stealthy, resilient communications capabilities. The role focuses on designing and evaluating network and comms solutions for denied environments, with hands-on work in Linux, Python/C/C++, and modern tooling.

Responsibilities include building threat-representative topologies, developing automation tools for T&E, and mentoring teams while traveling up to 25% for field testing and integration

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity or closely related field.
  • At least three years of professional experience in network engineering, coding, or T&E.
  • Programming proficiency in Python, C/C++, or Rust.
  • Comfort with Linux and network analysis tools such as WireShark.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to work independently and with others.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% for field testing and operational integration.
  • Ability to obtain Interim Top Secret security clearance by start date and pursue Top Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and qualify an evolving portfolio of network and comms capabilities, determining real-world impact and survivability.
  • Design, build, and orchestrate threat-representative network topologies and SD communications for test ranges.
  • Develop and deploy software automation and analytical tools used in Test & Evaluation of network-based effects.
  • Collaborate with mission partners to translate operational challenges into actionable, low-profile technical solutions.
  • Mentor technical teams and drive them toward robust clandestine capabilities.
