Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory seeks a dynamic software engineer to design and deploy high‑quality, scalable software for national defense applications. You will work across the full software lifecycle, coordinating with sponsors and end users to deliver impactful solutions.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of experience with C#/Python/JavaScript/TypeScript/C++/Java, and hands-on web API design. Travel within the US is possible; interim/Top Secret clearance eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in CS or related degree.
• 5+ years of experience with C#, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, C++, or Java.
• Front-end and back-end web development experience.
• Design and integration of web APIs for secure, scalable communication.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals.
• Interest in leading development and mentoring.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with GitLab, Jira, VS Code.
• Team-oriented and collaborative.
• Knowledge of testing methodologies.
• Strong debugging and communication skills.
• Willing to travel within the US and obtain clearances.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop new software while maintaining existing systems.
• Participate in all SDLC phases from requirements to deployment at customer sites.
• Review software design, implementation, documentation, and testing.
• Prepare and execute software deployments at APL and client sites.
• Collaborate with developers, engineers, analysts, and sponsors to meet needs.
