Job summary

Security Benefit is seeking an experienced Manager, Statutory Accounting to lead a team responsible for financial reporting under SAP. You will own the accuracy of journal entries, statements, filings, analyses and reconciliations while mentoring staff and coordinating with senior leadership.

The role offers ownership over insurance entities, exposure to executives, and the chance to shape processes in a hybrid office environment based in Topeka/Overland Park, KS or Des Moines, IA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting required.

Responsibilities

• Lead SAP close and ensure journal entries and reconciliations are completed on schedule.
• Review financial statements, MD&A, and supporting schedules with staff.
• Analyze financial results, communicate findings to senior leadership.
• Prepare and manage state filings for multiple life insurance companies.
• Oversee FABN disclosures and notes, transitioning work to internal ownership.
• Manage SAP audit process and coordinate deliverables for multiple accounts.
• Serve as primary contact for auditors and respond to inquiries.
• Research and resolve technical accounting matters and document conclusions.
• Ensure work complies with internal controls and strengthen controls where needed.
• Train, mentor, and coach staff to build a high-performing team.
• Conduct performance management and evaluate direct reports.
• Review and approve journal entries and reconciliations.
• Identify process improvements to increase efficiency.
• Develop relationships with internal/external customers and business partners.
• Partner with leadership on resource planning and projects.
