The ideal candidate holds a Maryland 1st class or DC 3rd Class Operating Engineer license with 5+ years of maintenance experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications

  • License required: Maryland 1st class or DC 3rd Class Operating Engineer.
  • Minimum 5 years of maintenance and repairs on commercial-industrial building equipment.
  • Familiar with BAS front end systems, Windows and MS Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; able to work independently or in a team.
  • Willing to be on-call and work extended days or weekends as needed.
  • Drug test pass and ability to obtain HSPD-12 clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Central Plants, BAS, and related equipment to ensure continuous operation.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors for maintenance and repairs.
  • Inform Chief Engineer on plant matters and issues as they arise.
  • Maintain inventory, supplies and equipment for the facility.
  • Liaise with architects and contractors on renovations or major projects.
  • Maintain records and ensure safety compliance and documentation.
  • Be on-call rotation for after-hour coverage and extended shifts when required.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems throughout the campus.

Job Summary

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operations of the Central Plants, associated equipment, building equipment, BAS, and other assigned duties Shift Stationary Engineer ensure all equipment is fully operational at all times and in compliance with GS A requirements, DC, federal codes/laws, rules and regulations, policies, procedures, protocols, and controls that govern operations.
  • Under the direction of the Chief Engineer work with subcontractors needed for operations and preventative maintenance.
  • Inform Chief Engineer & Staff members on physical plant matters and problem areas.
  • Maintain necessary supplies, equipment and services from appropriate sources and maintains proper inventory control, maintenance, and consumable supplies.
  • Maintains liaison with architects, engineers, and contractors/subcontractors engaged in renovation, or other major projects.
  • Maintains records, files, controls, and procedures.
  • Responsible for safe and efficient operation and maintenance during his/her watch of all equipment.
  • All fired and unfired pressure vessels and vacuum systems.
  • All refrigeration and air conditioning machinery and their associated equipment include maintenance and repair of cold storage spaces.
  • Performing duty tours of the building.
  • Responsible for being on call rotation for after-hour call ins.
  • Must be available to work extended days or weekends if needed. Familiar with BAS front end system.
  • Performing Preventive Maintenance on HVAC equipment in the building through the Campus.
Physical Demands
  • Maryland 1st or DC 3rd Class Operating Engineering license
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and control all aspects of facilities activities.
  • Experience and knowledge of office administration, plant management, reporting, blueprints, buildings, equipment, housekeeping, construction, repair, maintenance, purchasing, inventory control, fire, safety management, and OSHA codes.
  • General working knowledge of CMMS systems.
  • Experience with Windows and MS Office.
  • Demonstrated skill at developing and nurturing client relationships.
  • Good communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently or as member of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to ever changing priorities.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by his supervisor.
  • Candidate must pass a drug test and be able to obtain HSPD-12 clearance.
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience in maintenance and repairs on Commercial-Industrial building equipment.
