Job description

Shady Grove Medical Center seeks to hire an experienced Stationary Engineer 2nd class for the Operation Facilities Department.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and control all plant equipment, including air handlers, steam stations, emergency generators, fuel systems, and all associated equipment. Responsibilities include operating, maintaining, and servicing basic building assets, doors, HVAC systems, Building Automation Systems, CMMS, plumbing, steam, vessels, air compressors, pumps, motors, fire protection, nurse call, and other building systems, and services to all boilers, chillers, generators, and associated equipment daily.
  • Provide energy management system (EMS)/building automation system (BAS) oversight to ensure the building maintains maximum comfort and energy set points and setbacks.
  • Complete assigned monthly PM work orders on time and document all work performed in the CMMS database.
  • Diagnose and repair Direct Expansion (DX) HVAC equipment, ice machines, Commercial Air Handling Equipment (AHU), Variable Air Volume (VAV) for both variable and constant volume ventilation equipment. Research and select materials for HVAC installations, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2-4 years of experience in commercial or hospital central utility plant operations.
  • 2nd Class Stationary Engineer License in the State of Maryland or ability to take the exam within the first 12 months of employment.
  • Valid US Driver’s License required.
Work Schedule

Employment Type: Full‑time

Hours per Week: 40 hrs/week

Typical Daily Schedule: 3PM–11:30 PM

Shift Type: Evening

Weekend Requirements: every weekend (consecutive days off during the week)

Holiday Requirements: Required/Follow company holiday calendar

On‑Call: no

Shift Differential Eligible: yes

Additional Details: This position will lean heavily into the electrical side with secondary HVACR. The position will be on 1st day shift for first 90 days of orientation and training, then shift to the evening shift. The position is not a rotating schedule.

Pay Range: $21.55 - $42.17

Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), this position is classified as: United States of America (Non‑Exempt)
