Job summary

City of New York seeks a Stationary Engineer to operate, maintain and monitor high-temperature boilers across 56 city buildings. You will supervise staff, perform routine maintenance, and manage materials while ensuring safe, efficient operations citywide.

Required is a valid High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer license from the NYC Department of Buildings; additional FDNY/FDNT/DOHMH licenses are preferred. The position supports the 55-a Program and includes career development within FMC/DCAS.

Qualifications

• A valid High Pressure boiler operating license from NYC Department of Buildings.
• Multiple specialized licenses issued by FDNY/FDNT/DOHMH are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates, maintains and adjusts boilers, furnaces, pumps and related equipment in public buildings.
• Takes charge of a watch and directs subordinate personnel.
• May operate control consoles in control rooms.
• Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs.
• Prepares requisitions for materials and spare parts.
• Reads and logs meters, gauges and recording devices.
• Instructs and trains subordinates and other personnel.
• Inspects low pressure boilers under NYC Buildings procedures.

Facilities Management & Construction (FMC) manages, operates, and maintains 56 City-owned buildings throughout the five boroughs, working to provide clean, safe, and energy efficient space for the tenants in these public buildings. FMC is dedicated to both the daily maintenance of the public buildings, managed by Building Services, Fire & Life Safety, and other critical field staff, as well as to long-term renovation and rehabilitation projects, which are managed by a dedicated staff of architects, engineers, and other professional technical experts. FMC also oversees the daily operations of all elevators across the DCAS public buildings portfolio.

The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

• Operates, maintains and adjusts high pressure boilers, furnaces, engines, pumps, heat exchangers, generators, motors, equipment for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting and associated equipment in public buildings, municipal pumping stations and incinerators;
• Takes responsible charge of a watch and directs subordinate personnel;
• May operate control consoles in control rooms;
• Makes periodic inspections of equipment and minor repairs to such equipment;
• Performs preventive maintenance;
• Prepares requisitions for materials and spare parts;
• Reads and logs meters, gauges and other recording devices;
• Instructs and trains subordinates and other personnel;
• As directed, inspects low pressure boilers in accordance with a unified inspection procedure instituted by the New York City Department of Buildings.

Minimum Qualifications

A valid license for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Preferred Skills

• High Pressure boiler license issued by NYCDOB - Refrigeration engineers operating license issued by FDNY. - S12 and 13 issued by FDNT - P99 Issued by FDNY - G35 Issued by FDNY. - G-7 pesticide technician for DOHMH legionella control.
