Job summary

DCAS, Facilities Management & Construction, is seeking a Stationary Engineer responsible for operating, maintaining, and overseeing high pressure boilers and related equipment across NYC public buildings and municipal facilities. The role requires licenses, strong mechanical skills, and leadership of subordinates.

The position includes managing inspections and preventive maintenance, with opportunities to participate in the 55-a Program. A valid DOB license must be maintained for employment.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer license issued by the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB). The license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operates, maintains and adjusts high pressure boilers, furnaces, engines, pumps, heat exchangers, generators, motors, equipment for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting and associated equipment in public buildings, municipal pumping stations and incinerators.
• Takes responsible charge of a watch and directs subordinate personnel.
• May operate control consoles in control rooms.
• Makes periodic inspections of equipment and minor repairs to such equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance.
• Prepares requisitions for materials and spare parts.
• Reads and logs meters, gauges and other recording devices.
• Instructs and trains subordinates and other personnel.
• Inspected low pressure boilers in accordance with the NYC Department of Buildings unified inspection procedure.

Facilities Management & Construction (FMC) manages, operates, and maintains 56 City-owned buildings throughout the five boroughs, working to provide clean, safe, and energy efficient space for the tenants in these public buildings. FMC is dedicated to both the daily maintenance of the public buildings, managed by Building Services, Fire & Life Safety, and other critical field staff, as well as to long-term renovation and rehabilitation projects, which are managed by a dedicated staff of architects, engineers, and other professional technical experts. FMC also oversees the daily operations of all elevators across the DCAS public buildings portfolio.

Minimum Qualifications

A valid license for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
