Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking Station Electricians (C, B, A) to perform construction, maintenance, and testing of energized and de-energized generation, transmission, and distribution facilities. The role includes extensive travel (>50%) and shift work, with duties ranging from wiring, testing, to safety compliance.

Requires an associate degree or equivalent experience, or military technical background; travel is a significant component of the role; CDL may be required for certain

Qualifications

• Associate degree in electrical/mechanical/industrial maintenance technology or equivalent education and/or experience.
• Equivalent education and experience is limited to military training and work experience of technical/technician nature (such as aviation and nuclear instrumentation technician).
• Recent experience (within last 6 months) as a Station Electrician or equivalent job title with another utility or contractor.

Responsibilities

• Perform work on energized equipment up to 260 volts, with higher voltages under supervision.
• Read and select prints/drawings for various work.
• Use test equipment: voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, insulation meggers.
• Disassemble/maintain station transformers, circuit breakers, portable substations, rotating machinery, batteries; install/maintain equipment.

Education
