Job summary

The State of South Carolina, through the Department of Public Safety's South Carolina Highway Patrol, seeks an experienced communications and operations coordinator for statewide duties. This internal post supports the Unit Commander and oversees daily operations, ensuring policy compliance and governance of the CRRU.

Responsibilities include coordinating law enforcement programs, supervising subordinates, monitoring public information efforts, and serving as a spokesperson.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and experience supervising law enforcement personnel at a public agency.
• Five years of Class 1 law enforcement experience and supervision.
• Must have completed Patrol Training School Basic and Advanced PIO training.
• Knowledge of media policies, FOIA laws, and information dissemination.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Unit Commander in managing all daily operations.
• Ensures subordinates comply with SCHP policies and procedures.
• Develops rules and regulations for the CRRU.
• Performs administrative tasks including review of schedules, SCEIS, activity, and complaints.
• Represents the Unit Commander in absence and manages law enforcement programs.
• Monitors public information releases and social media; aligns CRO activities with safety initiatives.
• Acts as SCHP spokesperson and provides information to subordinates and media.
• Assists FOIA Officer with review and release of records.
• Responsible for evaluating subordinate employees and enforcing state laws.
