Job summary

State of South Carolina, through the Department of Public Safety, seeks a candidate to oversee statewide Special Operations. This internal posting targets current SCHP officers and coordinates A-CERT, CERT, BPS, CIT, and Honor Guard units.

The role involves supervising personnel, coordinating with divisions, enforcing traffic laws, and developing firearms and tactical training for troopers and officers. Overnight travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and experience supervising law enforcement personnel at a public law enforcement agency.
• Must possess in-depth knowledge of firearms training and Civil Emergency Response Team training and development.
• Must be a current member of SCDPS A-CERT and able to instruct Firearms, Patrol Rifle, and Mobile Field Force training.

Responsibilities

• Acts as coordinator between SCHP and other divisions while maintaining confidentiality.
• Supervises subordinate employees assigned to the Special Operations Unit and enforces state laws.
• Assists in development and delivery of firearms, officer survival, Active Shooter, tactical, and physical fitness training for Troopers/Officers.
• Maintains knowledge of Special Operations equipment and weapons (Lethal, Less-Lethal, Chemical, Electrical).
• Establishes and maintains relationships with other law enforcement agencies and community groups.
