Qualifications

• BA degree in Fire Science or closely related field.
• HS diploma or GED with progression in firefighting work and related programs.
• Each year of college coursework may substitute for work experience as described.
• Valid Class D driver’s license or ability to travel within the state.
• Successful completion of testing, interview, background and checks.
• Preference for experience in code enforcement, plan review, public education, or fire investigation.

Responsibilities

• Develop statewide program for fire prevention and maintain it.
• Enforce laws regulating storage, sale, and use of combustibles and explosives.
• Educate citizens on fire hazards.
• Investigate origin and cause of fires.
• Review construction plans and support fire departments.
