Job summary

DGS in Richmond, VA is seeking a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect to serve as State Review Fire Protection Architect/Engineer. You will leverage extensive knowledge of building codes to inspect construction and evaluate plans.

The role requires licensure in Virginia, strong communication, and the ability to coordinate across agencies and A/E firms; hybrid work arrangement eligible after training and probation.

Qualifications

• Virginia licensure as PE or Architect within one year.
• ICC Fire Plans Examiner and Commercial Fire Inspector certifications within one year.
• Experience in building code analyses and plan/spec reviews for various facilities.
• Experience inspecting construction in progress.
• Strong written and oral communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and directing corrections necessary for plans and specifications to conform to CPSM, VUSBC, IFC, VEBC, ASME A17.1, NFPA codes, and other standards.
• Creating technical reports and recommendations and presenting them to management and clients.
• Consulting with other DEB reviewers to determine correct applications of code requirements.
• Participating in building inspections.
• Providing technical assistance to Agencies, A/E designers, and representatives from A/E firms.
