Job summary

South Carolina Department of Public Safety is seeking certified Class I Law Enforcement Officers for patrols, investigations, and protective services across Richland County. You will enforce statutes, testify in court, and assist in documenting critical incidents while maintaining high standards of public safety.

Qualified applicants must be US citizens, at least 21, possess a high school diploma, and have a SC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• US citizenship and age 21+ are required.
• Requires high school diploma with possible bachelor's substitution.
• SC residency and SC driver's license required prior to hire.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas to deter and detect violations; enforces state statutes and regulations.
• Exercises arrests powers and testifies in court.
• Investigates disturbances and determines causes and participants.
• Completes reports and documents; uses DPS policies and procedures.
• Maintains security for state properties and provides protective services.
• Assists with order and discipline at the Chambers of the Legislature and state buildings.
• Directs visitors to appropriate personnel.
• Assists in basic training of new officers including scenarios and laws.
• Maintains knowledge of state statutes and DPS protocols.
