Job summary
KOTA/KEVN-TV in Rapid City, part of Gray Media, is seeking an experienced journalist to inform, educate, and entertain across broadcast and digital platforms. You will host a digital talk show at least once a week featuring politicians from across South Dakota and prepare a daily story for air.
A self-starter with proven coverage of state politics and the ability to build sources and explain legislation clearly to viewers is essential.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in journalism or related field.
- Strong writing and broadcast scripting ability.
- Experience with newsroom systems (ENPS preferred).
- Ability to shoot, edit, and light stories; capable of live broadcasts.
Responsibilities
- Plan, staff and coordinate statewide political stories with news directors.
- Develop and maintain sources across state agencies and parties.
- Travel statewide with candidates during elections as needed.
- File open records requests and manage FOIA processes.
- Research legislation and explain it clearly to viewers.
- Generate daily story ideas with statewide relevance.
- Be a digital-first MMJ, streaming conferences and covering breaking news.
- Demonstrate strong news judgment and ethics in all reporting.
- Shoot and edit own stories and go live on air and online.
- Deliver excellent live reporting and adapt to breaking events.
- Work flexible hours around legislative sessions.
