Job summary

T-Mobile seeks a Senior Director, State Government Affairs to lead our state-level legislative strategy, align engagement with business goals, and manage a team of professionals and external consultants. You will work closely with the VP of Legislative Affairs to execute public policy initiatives across all 50 states, prioritizing headquarters states and key markets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years in legislative affairs, with at least 5 in leadership.
• Experience lobbying senior leaders in Fortune 500 or similar organization.
• Strong bipartisan network and track record of success navigating legislative environments.
• Deep expertise in U.S. legislative processes and public policy at federal and state levels.
• Superior communication, negotiation, and influence skills.
• Strategic mindset with ability to anticipate, navigate, and respond to complex policy challenges.
• Experience developing teams, budgets, and external consultants.
• High integrity, judgment, and discretion in politically sensitive environments.
• Ability to communicate across team and organizational boundaries to drive consensus.
• Flexibility, self-starter in rapidly changing environment.
• Desire for responsibility and ownership; ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Creative problem solver and solutions provider.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead a comprehensive State legislative strategy aligned with corporate goals and risk mitigation.
• Partner with internal units to align legislative engagement with operations, commercial, and compliance needs.
• Oversee direct lobbying with elected officials, legislative staff, and government agencies.
• Formulate proactive legislative strategies to protect and advance business interests.
• Lead a team of professionals and external lobbyists, and manage coalitions.
• Represent the company in hearings, briefings, and policy roundtables as senior spokesperson.
• Monitor state legislative activity and political developments; identify threats and opportunities.
• Drive policy communications, testimony, briefing documents, and advocacy campaigns.
• Foster bipartisan relationships and ensure a credible presence with decision-makers.
