Job summary

T-Mobile seeks a Senior Director, State Government Affairs to lead our state-level legislative strategy, align engagement with business goals, and manage a team of professionals and external consultants. The Senior Director, State Government Affairs leads the company's legislative lobbying function across state and local levels. This high-impact leadership role is responsible for developing and executing strategies that advance the company’s public policy agenda, protect business interests, and enhance the company’s reputation with key governmental and legislative stakeholders. This position will work with our VP of Legislative affairs to set the vision, lead strategy development, and oversee execution of legislative and political engagement efforts across all 50 states, with a heightened focus on our headquartered states and other priority markets.

The Senior Director oversees a team of State government affairs professionals and external consultants, serves as a senior advisor to VP of Legislative affairs and executive leadership, and acts as the organization’s lead lobbyist on core state legislative priorities.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead a comprehensive State legislative strategy to influence outcomes aligned with corporate goals and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Partner with internal business units to align legislative engagement with operational, commercial, and compliance needs. Close coordination with the Federal Legislative team focusing on State policies including Taxes, Labor Laws, Privacy and other issues impacting our business.
  • Oversee direct lobbying efforts, including interactions with elected officials, legislative staff, and government agencies.
  • Formulate proactive legislative and political strategies designed to protect and advance T-Mobile’s business interests, including defeating or amending harmful legislation, securing passage of favorable laws, and shaping the policy environment to support our customers, employees, and long-term growth.
  • Lead a team of industry professionals and maintain relationships with external lobbyists, industry associations, and coalitions.
  • Represent the company in hearings, briefings, leadership meetings, and policy roundtables. Serve as a senior spokesperson for the company’s policy positions and values with policymakers and thought leaders.
  • Monitor State legislative activity and political developments; proactively identify threats and opportunities.
  • Drive the development of policy communications, testimony, briefing documents, and advocacy campaigns.
  • Foster bipartisan relationships and ensure the company maintains a strong, credible presence with key decision-makers.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Law, Public Policy, Political Science, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in legislative affairs, government relations, or political advocacy, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience lobbying on behalf of or interacting directly with senior leaders in a Fortune 500 or similarly complex organization.
  • Strong bipartisan network and a track record of success navigating legislative environments.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. legislative processes and public policy formulation at both federal and state levels.
  • Superior communication, negotiation, and influence skills.
  • Strategic mindset with an ability to anticipate, navigate, and respond to complex policy challenges.
  • Experience developing teams, budgets, and external consultants.

Base Pay Range: $225,300 - $304,800

Corporate Bonus Target: 35%

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as qualifications and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year.
