Sailor’s Creek Battlefield State Park is accepting applications for an Interpretive Assistant position.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an outgoing and energetic individual to support school groups, educational programs, fairs, and park events. This position greets guests, assists with program activities, and helps provide meaningful educational experiences by sharing the history of the park and its natural, cultural, and historical resources. This position also requires working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide excellent customer service to park guests.
• Preform cash handling and merchandise sales using a point-of-sale (POS) system.
• Assist park staff with general clerical and administrative tasks.
• Requires available to work primarily on weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with park staff and guests.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to preparematerials and deliver presentations.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in alignment with established goals and objectives.

Additional Considerations:

• Relevant work experience in education, administration, and/or customer service.
• Foundational knowledge of Civil War and Virginia history.

Special Instructions:

• Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
• Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
• Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
• Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
