Job summary

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is hiring a Maintenance Ranger at Culpeper Battlefields State Park to perform grounds care, maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks across park facilities, grounds, and equipment.

Responsibilities include cleaning restrooms, mowing, weed eating, leaf removal, trail upkeep, and basic upkeep of equipment and vehicles, with activities outdoors in varying weather.

Qualifications

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Must be willing to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
• General knowledge of use and care of common hand tools and cleaning supplies/equipment.
• Friendly, outgoing, and able to work unsupervised or with a team.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Experience working in parks or similar environment is a plus.
• First Aid/CPR certification.

• Mow grass and perform general groundskeeping tasks.
• Remove leaves, trash, and litter from park areas.
• Perform basic maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment.

• Report repair needs to the supervisor

Culpeper Battlefields State Park is accepting applications for a Maintenance Ranger position.

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Ranger performs the recurring grounds care, maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate Virginia State Park facilities, grounds, and equipment. Includes but is not limited to, cleaning restrooms; mowing grass; weed eating; raking/removing leaf litter, trash, and litter; cleaning park buildings; trail maintenance; performing basic upkeep and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.

• Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
• Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
• Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
• Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
