Job summary

ID.me is seeking a Director of Government Affairs, SLED, to lead state policy advocacy and regulatory engagement across multiple states. The role reports to the VP, Head of Government Affairs and drives strategies affecting digital identity, fraud prevention, and access to benefits.

Ideal candidates bring deep knowledge of state policy processes, strong political instincts, and the ability to operate independently in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• 5–7 years of experience in state government affairs, public policy, legislative service, or related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in state legislative and regulatory processes.
• Proven success advancing policy priorities at the state level.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience briefing senior leadership.
• Excellent relationship-building and coalition-management skills across political lines.
• Ability to manage multiple states, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
• Experience in digital government, identity, cybersecurity, or public-sector technology policy is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement state government affairs strategies to support ID.me’s revenue objectives.
• Represent ID.me before state legislative bodies, executive agencies, and regulatory authorities through lobbying and relationship management.
• Establish operational plans for the state government affairs function aligned with Government Affairs strategy and GTM goals for public sector.
• Manage external state lobbying consultants, ensuring alignment with policy priorities, revenue goals, and compliance.
• Monitor and report on state legislation, regulations, and trends affecting operations and growth.
• Translate policy developments into actionable intelligence and strategic recommendations for senior leadership, product, and SLED sales teams.
• Develop position papers, legislative testimony, and written materials to articulate the company’s stance on policy issues.
• Build and maintain relationships with state officials, associations (NASCIO, NCSL, NGA), coalitions, and influencers.
• Collaborate with Government Affairs and SLED sales teams to coordinate coalitions with industry partners.
• Oversee participation in state-level trade associations and political engagement activities.
• Ensure compliance with state lobbying, ethics, and disclosure requirements.
