Job Title: State Hospital Diversion Program Terrell

Overview

NTBHA is responsible for developing a collaborative system of care for children, adolescents, and adults with severe mental illness and other serious emotional disturbances, as well as those experiencing a substance use disorder. The State Hospital Diversion Program Terrell position works within the remote telehealth crisis services system, providing crisis assessments, interventions, follow-up, and relapse prevention services for individuals in the community.

Responsibilities
  • Provide initial telephonic triage and screening, in-person or face-to-face crisis assessment, and crisis intervention.
  • Coordinate care with local providers, mental health response teams, co-responder teams, and chronic care outreach teams.
  • Perform triage and assessment of crisis calls, including psychiatric crisis components for emergent, urgent, and routine behavioral health calls.
  • Coordinate and facilitate involuntary responses with law enforcement or courts when required.
  • Communicate with community members, law enforcement, crisis services, courts, hospitals, diversion programs, schools, and NTBHA staff regarding clients’ progress, barriers, and needs.
  • Attend weekend/holiday hours and flexible work hours; maintain a 7-day/24-hour crisis response schedule.
  • Seek clinical consultation with supervisors as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with NTBHA policies, state and federal regulations, and documentation standards.
  • Travel up to 100% per day within the NTBHA catchment area (Dallas, Ellis, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro and Rockwall Counties). Utilize a fleet or personal vehicle as required.
  • Maintain accurate, timely reporting metrics and records, files, and correspondence.
  • Use NTBHA’s approved curriculum and assessments appropriate to client developmental and cognitive abilities.
  • Assist clients in accessing appropriate mental health services and facilitate continuity of care.
  • Develop rapport with clients and agencies, using Motivational Interviewing and other relevant methods.
  • Understand and adhere to Texas crisis response requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, behavioral health, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of community mental health experience working with individuals having severe persistent mental illness and substance use disorders, including crisis services.
  • Experience in MCOT or field crisis response teams.
  • Experience providing psychosocial education, skills training, or assessments to the target population.
  • Experience participating in treatment teams that develop and monitor treatment plans for persons with severe persistent mental illness and substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of Texas crisis response requirements and community resources within the NTBHA service area.
  • Valid driver’s license; clear background record required for healthcare organization under state and federal contracts.
  • Ability to perform remote work reliably using telehealth systems.
  • Proficiency with PC, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with company-specific programs and software.
  • Bilingual ability preferred but not required.
