Job summary

CALTRANS is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker in Lassen County to perform a range of highway maintenance tasks and heavy manual labor under supervision. The role involves working with a crew or independently, handling traffic control, equipment operation, and routine upkeep of state highways.

Position is permanent intermittent up to 1,500 hours per year; candidates must be eligible via Caltrans exam and hold a valid Class C driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform heavy manual labor, traffic control and chain control functions.

Responsibilities

• Seals cracks; loads, unloads and shovels material; digs or repairs drainage ditches and culverts; clears drainage inlets.
• Operates light landscape, maintenance or construction equipment (pickup, cone truck, etc.).
• Keeps simple records and assists with traffic control duties (lane closures, flagging, moving closures, chain control).
• Removes obstacles and debris from travel ways and rights of way; may assist in repair or replacement of signs, fence and guardrail posts.
