The University of Maryland, College Park is seeking an Associate Director for State Government Relations to advocate for the University's priorities with the Maryland General Assembly, Governor's Office, state agencies, and other stakeholders. This role serves as the primary day‑to‑day liaison between the University and state legislators, legislative staff, and executive branch officials.

The Associate Director supports legislative monitoring, advocacy strategy, testimony and policy material

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Five (5) years of professional experience in legislative affairs working directly with lawmakers on policy or budget matters.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary day‑to‑day liaison between the University and state legislators, legislative staff, executive branch officials, and agency staff.
• Monitor and analyze legislation, develop advocacy strategy, prepare testimony and policy materials.
• Build and maintain relationships with elected officials and governmental stakeholders.
• Track budgets and regulations; coordinate state government requests involving University leadership, faculty, staff, students, and units.
• Shape policy outcomes and advance University priorities during the annual legislative session.
• Represent the University before the General Assembly, state agencies, external coalitions, and stakeholder groups as appropriate.
