Job summary

Advanced Energy United is seeking a Policy Principal to guide political strategy for the DMEE team, focusing on relationships with governors, regulators, and policymakers in the Midwest. The role emphasizes proactive outreach, strategic messaging, and cross-functional collaboration to advance state energy policy priorities.

The ideal candidate has policy or advocacy experience, strong project management, and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 3–6 years of professional experience, with ideally 2+ years engaging with elected officials.
• Experience in advocacy or policy affecting the advanced energy industry is a plus.
• Ability to tailor engagement strategies to audience and build rapport quickly.
• Ability to convey technical concepts to decision-makers clearly.
• Track record of multi-stakeholder programs or campaigns.
• Independent self-starter who thrives in a remote environment and manages their own calendar.

Responsibilities

• Own the political strategy for building relationships with key decision-makers in a portfolio of Midwest states.
• Develop communication strategies reflecting state energy outlooks and political landscapes for state decision-makers.
• Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, advocacy groups, coalitions, industry experts, and regulators.
• Use project management tools to deliver on short- and long-term goals.
• Maintain information for program knowledge management and retention.
• Communicate campaign progress, outcomes, and metrics to internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to strategy and tactic ideation to improve program efficacy.
