Job summary

The State of Vermont is seeking an Emergency Medical Services Director - Limited Service to lead the Office of EMS and shape a modern, statewide prehospital system. Based in Waterbury, this role blends public health with public safety, directing licensing, training, data management and grant programs while coordinating with hospitals and EMS providers.

Ideal candidates will have strong EMS leadership experience, a track record in rural EMS, supervisory background, and current EMT licensure.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in health, administration or human services related fields AND two (2) years or more of experience in emergency medical services INCLUDING one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in health, administration or human services related fields AND three (3) years or more of experience in emergency medical services INCLUDING one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• Associate’s degree in health, administration or human services related fields AND five (5) years or more of experience in emergency medical services INCLUDING one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• Six (6) years or more of experience in emergency medical services INCLUDING one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Direct the Office of EMS and oversee the state EMS regulatory system, licensing, inspections and data management.
• Lead personnel development, grant administration (e.g., EMS for Children) and education programs.
• Collaborate with hospitals, EMS districts, and safety partners to implement the EMS strategy.
• Represent Health Department with stakeholders and participate in incident management when needed.
