Job summary

The State of Vermont seeks a Medical Director to provide medical leadership across AHS agencies, guiding clinical standards and quality oversight for forensic services and contracted care.

You will collaborate with DOC, DMH, DAIL, DCF, and DVS providers to improve patient experience and health outcomes, while aligning clinical programs and policies with Vermont Medicaid and state reform efforts.

Qualifications

• MD/DO with ABMS board certification; addiction medicine preferred.
• Current Vermont medical license.
• Meets Vermont Medicaid credentialing standards.
• At least five years of clinical practice experience.
• Demonstrated medical management leadership.
• Expert knowledge of care management and quality improvement.
• Understanding of national and Vermont health reform initiatives.
• Experience serving underserved communities.
• Experience with complex co-occurring conditions.
• Familiarity with EQRO standards.
• Familiarity with electronic health records.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical guidelines review and adoption across departments.
• Peer review of medical contractor care audits and quality studies.
• Independent physician oversight for high-risk or complex cases.
• Enhance care coordination through expert consultation.
• Develop and implement care outcomes metrics initiatives.
• Ensure DOC compliance with NCCHC standards during accreditation.
• Strengthen clinical governance and healthcare compliance.
• Engage with external physicians and agency staff on clinical matters.
• Review complex sentinel events for CI rework.
• Oversee management of diabetes, OUD, and chronic conditions.
• Participate in case reviews and system-level quality improvement.
• Provide utilization and care management program guidance.
