Job summary

Doeren Mayhew is seeking a Senior Tax Associate to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) team. The role involves preparing and reviewing SALT returns, conducting research, and delivering tax planning for diverse clients.

Located in offices such as Orlando, this position emphasizes client service, collaboration, and mentoring staff. CPA track is preferred, with 2 years’ SALT experience in a professional services setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field.
• CPA or CPA track preferred, but not required.
• 2 years of experience in state and local tax, preferably in public accounting or consulting.
• Knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulations.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, research, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare or review state and local sales tax returns, personal property tax returns, C‑corporation, S‑corporation, and Partnership income returns.
• Conduct research and provide technical advice on state and local tax issues.
• Assist clients with state and local tax audits, including audit defense and negotiation.

• Stay current on state and local tax laws and regulations and communicate changes to clients and team members.

• Mentor and train staff members, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive client service.

This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base and contribute to the growth and success of our Grand Rapids, Michigan-based SALT practice. The position is available in Troy, Grand Rapids, Houston, Duluth, Rochester, Birmingham, Orlando, or Clarksville offices.
