Job summary

Strategic Management Solutions, LLC (SMSI) seeks a Startup Engineer to support Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The Engineer serves as the primary liaison between PSD-DO and PPI-DO, representing PPI in the Project Owner Role (POR) on construction projects.

This onsite position requires an active DOE Q clearance. The role demands exceptional organizational, analytical, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to lead, mentor, and coordinate multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications

• 20 years of LANL-related construction/technical management experience.
• Experience mentoring multidisciplinary teams and coordinating deliverables.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to develop schedules, cost estimates, forecasts, and program reports.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to brief management.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
• Work in a safety-conscious, highly regulated environment.
• Active DOE Q clearance required; US citizenship required.
• Active Real-ID driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between PSD-DO and PPI-DO, representing PPI as POR on construction projects.
• Ensure end-user requirements are met across design, procurement, installation, and testing.
• Mentor new PPI employees on PF4 operations and plant functionality.
• Coordinate with project disciplines to maintain budget and schedule.
• Develop and submit project schedules, cost estimates, budgets, and docs.
• Coordinate facility upgrades with personnel requests and technical needs.
• Monitor milestones, deliverables, resources, and performance.
• Support planning of facility improvements to meet mission needs.
• Maintain communication among technical personnel and program management.
• Emphasize safety, security and environmental stewardship.
• Identify risks and provide management with recommendations.
• Maintain accurate program documentation and records.
• Train replacement personnel to ensure continuity.
• Perform other duties to support mission requirements.
