Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Development Test Engineer (STARSHIELD) to design and build custom test solutions for satellites and ground systems. You will own test campaigns, develop fixtures and automated processes, and work with engineers across disciplines in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.

The role requires a degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, 1+ years in relevant mechanical design/analysis, and comfort with vibration, thermal, and pressure testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• 1+ years of experience in mechanical structures design/analysis or related work.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and execute static and dynamic environmental tests on satellite systems, components, and mechanisms.
• Lead bring-up, commissioning, modification, and improvement of test assets like TVAC chambers, shakers, stands, hydraulic systems.
• Partner with mechanical, electrical, thermal, launch and integration engineers to define requirements and deliver testing solutions.
• Own multiple end-to-end test campaigns, including plan creation, system activation, data review, and stand fabrication.
• Design, build, modify, and troubleshoot DAQ and control wiring/instrumentation.
• Automate repetitive test operations to increase testing capacity with high rigor.
• Identify system pitfalls and hazards, collaborating to resolve anomalies and improve test stands and flight hardware.
• Train technicians and engineers on test concepts and equipment usage.
