Job summary

Robbinsdale Area Schools in Minneapolis is seeking a Special Education Class 3B Education Assistant for the STARS program at Neill Elementary School. The seven-hour workday includes 6.5 hours of paid time plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch, with compensation at $24.75 per hour under the current contract plus benefits.

The STARS program supports students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs in a structured setting.

Qualifications

• Two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in MN) or an associate’s or higher degree or a passing ParaPro/Paraeducator assessment.
• Experience working with students with cognitive, physical, or behavior challenges is preferred.
• Word processing, filing and computer familiarity.
• Patient, calm and understanding manner with students.
• Sensitivity to confidentiality.
• Able to attend work regularly and report on time.
• Able to assist students with classroom assignments.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assists in providing supervision and instruction to students with disabilities.
• Provides clerical and organizational support to special education teachers as needed.
• Works with individuals and/or small groups when activities and assignments are presented by teachers.
• Provides support for students in crisis.
• Willingness to lift, carry and physically manage as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned by teacher or principal.
