Job summary

The Indiana Department of Transportation is seeking a Standards Engineer in the Standards and Policy Division. You will manage design manual and standard drawing updates from intake to publication, coordinating with stakeholders across multiple engineering disciplines to provide clear design guidance.

You will research industry practices, develop timelines, coordinate meetings and publish design memos, requiring strong civil engineering knowledge and software proficiency including MicroStation

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer license in Indiana required (exceptions for EIT/FE candidates actively pursuing PE).
• Strong written and verbal communication across multiple engineering disciplines.
• In-depth knowledge of survey, utilities, hydraulics, geotechnical, structural, roadway, traffic, safety, pavement, real estate and environmental practices.

This Standards Engineer position is part of the Indiana Department of Transportation's Standards and Policy Division. The role manages design manual and standard drawing update requests from initial intake through publication, coordinating with stakeholders across multiple engineering disciplines to ensure clear guidance for designers. The engineer researches industry practices, develops timelines, coordinates meetings, and publishes design memos, requiring expertise in civil engineering design software and transportation infrastructure standards.

Key qualifications:

• Professional Engineer license in Indiana required (exceptions for EIT/FE candidates actively pursuing PE)
• Expert proficiency in Word, Excel, Acrobat, SharePoint, and MicroStation
• High-level knowledge of survey, utilities, hydraulics, geotechnical, structural, roadway, traffic, safety, pavement, real estate, and environmental practices
• Intermediate skills in ProjectWise, OpenRoads Designer, AutoTURN, ArcGIS, PowerPoint, and WinSCP
• Valid driver's license
• Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills with ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines
