Job summary

The University of Maryland Medical System seeks a Clinical Nurse for UMMS Staffing (USC). The RN provides safe, evidence-based, patient- and family-centered care across inpatient, procedural, surgical, and ambulatory settings, deployed by Staffing Center based on needs and unit competencies.

The role requires an active Maryland RN license, BLS, and unit-specific certifications as needed. Minimum 2 years acute care nursing experience and a BSN are expected; BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• Current Maryland RN license or eligibility via compact
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Unit-specific certifications and experience requirements (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIHSS) based on unit competencies
• Minimum of two (2) years of recent acute care nursing experience within the past 12 months
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited nursing school
• BSN preferred

Responsibilities

• Direct and indirect nursing care for the unit’s patient population.
• Perform comprehensive assessments and implement interventions; document in EMR.
• Collaborate with families and interdisciplinary team to ensure safety and quality.
• Safely administer medications and use clinical equipment per policy.
• Delegate and supervise care within competency and Nurse Practice Act.
• Demonstrate professionalism and effective communication across units.
• Follow evidence-based practice and standards to promote safety.
• Identify and report patient safety risks and near misses.
• Support unit operations and staffing within validated competencies.
• Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Maintain licensure, certifications, and competencies.
• Complete required education and regulatory training.
• Pursue ongoing professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
