Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System seeks an experienced Clinical Nurse for UMMS Staffing (USC) to deliver safe, patient- and family-centered nursing care across inpatient, procedural, surgical and ambulatory settings. The USC RN is deployed to units based on need and validated competencies, working within Maryland Nurse Practice Act and organizational policies.

The role requires a current Maryland RN license, BLS, and 2 years of recent acute care experience; unit-specific requirements may add

Qualifications

• Current Maryland RN license or eligibility
• AHA BLS required
• Certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIHSS as unit requires
• Minimum 2 years acute care nursing experience in past 12 months
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect nursing care appropriate to patient population and acuity.
• Performs comprehensive patient assessments, documents care in EMR, with interventions as needed.
• Collaborates with patients, families and interdisciplinary team to promote safety and quality of care.
• Safely administers medications and uses clinical equipment per policy and competency.
• Delegates and supervises nursing care activities per Nurse Practice Act and policies.
• Maintains professionalism and effective communication when rotating between units.
• Adheres to evidence-based practice and regulatory standards for safety.
• Reports patient safety risks and adverse events per protocol.
• Supports unit operations and staffing needs within competencies.
• Participates in quality and performance improvement initiatives.
• Maintains current RN licensure and required certifications.
• Completes required organizational and regulatory education.
• Pursues ongoing professional development to maintain competence.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Long term assignments available after hire at higher pay rate.
