Questex is seeking a Staff Writer to deliver daily news and features for Fierce Biotech, covering biotech companies, science and deals shaping the industry. The ideal candidate will build sources, break news, and dig into the why and how behind major developments.

This role emphasizes editorial quality, ethics, and public representation across media, including podcasts and video, with occasional travel to industry conferences.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of newsroom experience with coverage of biotech or pharma preferred.
• Degree in journalism or related, writing-intensive field.
• Strong writing and reporting skills with AP style knowledge.
• Ability to build sources, report quickly and accurately.
• Experience with multimedia storytelling (podcasting, video, on-camera) is a plus.

We are looking for a journalist to deliver daily news and a steady flow of features that put the news in context for our readers. This role will support Fierce Biotech, covering the companies, science and deals shaping the industry.

The ideal candidate is eager to build sources, break news and dig into the why and how behind the day’s biggest developments. Our readers are sophisticated and deeply informed, and they look to Fierce for reporting, insights and perspective they can’t get anywhere else.

This person will also have a strong commitment to editorial quality and ethics, a passion for deeply reported journalism and the drive to grow into a trusted voice on their beat. Just as importantly, this role requires someone who is comfortable representing Fierce publicly—on camera, on stage and across social platforms.

As our Staff Writer, you’ll support Questex’s success by:

• Writing daily news stories and longer-form features for Fierce Biotech.
• Developing a beat and building a strong network of sources.
• Mining public records, court documents, regulatory filings, clinical trial data and company disclosures for original stories.
• Brainstorming and delivering features that help Fierce Biotech engage and grow its audience.
• Collaborating with editors and reporters across the newsroom on major stories and special projects.
• Creating or contributing to audio and video content, including podcasts and short-form video.
• Actively engaging on social media to promote stories, connect with sources and grow Fierce Biotech's audience and voice.
• Traveling occasionally to cover major industry conference and events.

What we will love about your background:

• Minimum two years of newsroom experience required, with a experience covering the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
• Degree in journalism or a related, writing-intensive field.
• Ability to work a regular workday with a start time of 8:00 a.m. ET to support newsroom coverage and team collaboration
• Strong writing and reporting skills, with knowledge of AP style.
• Demonstrated ability to report quickly, accurately and with nuance.
• Comfort reading regulatory materials and other industry documents.
• Experience with multimedia storytelling, including podcasting, video or on-camera work
• Comfort speaking publicly, including moderating panels or participating in live or recorded discussions.
• An understanding of how to use social media as a reporting and audience growth tool.
• A collaborative mindset, strong news judgment and enthusiasm for building expertise over time.

The expected base salary for these positions range from $60K to $70K. Salary offers are based on a broad scope of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market, geographic and organizational factors are also considered.
