The Opportunity

MedPage Today has a stellar reputation as the go-to source for the latest clinical news. Healthcare professionals across the U.S. know they can count on us for accurate, detailed reporting on the latest science from medical journals as well as healthcare policy that will impact their practice. In addition, MedPage is becoming the home for voices across medicine with our growing Opinions section, and the work of our newly formed Enterprise & Investigative team shines a spotlight on other important issues for clinicians, helping them feel more engaged in their profession and providing a means to influence medicine’s trajectory.

MedPage Today is hiring a staff writer to write 4-6 clinical news articles a week, potentially in the areas of infectious disease and/or gastroenterology, though versatility across medical specialties is a plus. We’re looking for significant experience with medical news writing; a person who can actively promote their work and that of MedPage on social media; and a person who will follow their article comments with interest. This person will either have a solid network of contacts in a medical specialty or will be adept at generating new contacts at academic medical centers to support their journalism.

The MedPage Today staff writer will travel to attend medical conferences in order to provide coverage in person.

Key Responsibilities

1. Write 4-6 clinical news stories a week and take assignments from various staff members
2. Identify the most important news in their assigned medical specialties that will resonate with our healthcare professional audience
3. Travel to cover medical meetings in assigned specialties
4. Promote your work and that of MPT on social media, growing followers and identifying leads for stories to cover yourself or pass to our Enterprise & Investigative team

Job Qualifications

1. A few years’ experience in health/medical journalism
