Mercury is a fintech company building products that feel extraordinary to use. We’re seeking a Staff Visual Designer to raise the ceiling on craft across Mercury’s design system and product experience.

This senior IC will shape brand-wide visuals, mentor designers, and ensure scalable, expressive design language across our surfaces. The role sits within Design Foundations, a brand-new team focused on design systems, brand-in-product, and AI tooling.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in visual design at product or brand scale.
• Portfolio showing foundational systems and high-craft visual design.
• Ability to articulate what makes design successful.
• Experience coaching designers with a clear craft perspective.
• Systems thinking balancing expressive design with scalable design systems.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to win buy-in from executives.
• Excellent communication and presence to defend design decisions with designers and engineers.
• Proficient in design tools and front-end prototyping with React; affinity for AI-assisted prototyping. Motion design is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Redefine and ship large, foundational improvements to Mercury’s design language across surfaces.
• Partner with Brand to align product visuals with brand language.
• Set the craft bar for the design org with reusable guidelines and references.
• Coach product designers to raise quality across individual work and design system.
• Collaborate with design systems and engineers to translate visuals into scalable components.
• Represent design systems in conversations with Brand, Engineering, and leadership.
