Job summary

Staffworx in New York seeks a Staff Systems Engineer to own the systems layer of a fast-scaling compute platform. You will work on kernel-level concerns, low-latency I/O, and microVM orchestration across a global bare-metal fleet.

This senior individual contributor role reports to the technical co-founders. Expect architecture ownership, end-to-end reliability, and opportunities for seven-figure equity as the platform scales. On-site in NYC with relocation for exceptional candidates.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in low level systems or distributed infrastructure engineering.
• Demonstrable personal ownership of business critical systems at a recognised, high calibre engineering organisation.
• Systems programming in Go, Rust or C/C++.
• Virtualisation experience such as Firecracker, KVM, QEMU or Cloud Hypervisor.
• Distributed storage at scale, Ceph or equivalent.
• Fluency with AI coding agents as part of your daily engineering workflow.

Responsibilities

• Own architectural direction for the core infrastructure platform: bare metal fleet management, microVM orchestration and petabyte scale distributed storage.
• Take end to end ownership of production reliability and performance as compute capacity triples.
• Build at the kernel and filesystem level using eBPF, cgroups, namespaces and low level I/O tuning.
• Lead ambiguous, high complexity initiatives from problem definition to delivery.
• Translate product and commercial strategy into a long term technical roadmap alongside the technical founders.
• Raise the engineering bar and act as a force multiplier for a small, elite team.
