Job summary

Outtake is seeking a staff-level infrastructure generalist to set the technical direction of our systems. You will own the foundations for billions of content items, coordinating across databases, search, and cloud architecture to enable rapid growth.

You’ll design scalable asynchronous processing, data ingestion, and reusable services for engineers, while guiding migrations and optimizing deployment strategies. NY office-based role.

Qualifications

• Experience operating at staff scope and leading complex infrastructure projects.
• Track record designing distributed infrastructure used by engineers or products.
• Experience scaling production systems with increases in data, traffic, or complexity.
• Deep knowledge of relational DB design, indexing, partitioning, and caching.
• Experience with high-throughput asynchronous systems and scheduling.
• Experience with large-scale search and retrieval systems.
• Experience building ingestion, streaming, or batch-processing pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for Outtake’s infrastructure across databases, search, data processing, and cloud architecture.
• Redesign search/retrieval to support fast investigation across billions of pieces of content.
• Evolve relational DB architecture with partitioning, sharding, and indexing strategies.
• Migrate live systems safely with architecture changes to topology and deployment.
• Design and build scalable asynchronous scheduling, queues, and retries.
• Build high-volume data ingestion, streaming, and batch processing pipelines.
• Develop shared infrastructure services and APIs for product engineers.
• Own cloud foundations: compute, storage, networking, isolation, deployment.
• Evaluate build-vs-buy tradeoffs for latency, throughput, durability, cost.
• Work across teams to convert recurring infra problems into reusable solutions.
• Operate built systems and use production data to improve architecture.
• Write proposals and guide engineers through complex decisions.
