Job summary

Okta is seeking a Staff Site Reliability Engineer for its Federal SRE team. You will design, build, and operate reliable cloud services with an automation-first mindset, collaborating with software engineers, architects, and product teams to deliver secure, scalable systems.

The role emphasizes incident response leadership, SLA/SLO governance, and deep expertise in cloud platforms. Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Poly is required for the Classified opportunity, with strong compliance focus.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience operating large-scale production services in AWS and/or GCP.
• Deep expertise with Kubernetes in production environments.
• Troubleshooting Kubernetes networking, storage, scheduling, and lifecycle issues.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform and Helm.
• Strong software engineering skills in Go and/or Python.
• Experience building automation and internal engineering platforms.
• Experience with distributed data platforms (PostgreSQL, Redis, OpenSearch, MySQL, Cassandra).
• Understanding of cloud networking fundamentals (DNS, load balancing, ingress, TLS).
• Experience with observability platforms and production telemetry.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate large-scale cloud infrastructure and production services.
• Participate in an on-call rotation supporting highly available customer-facing systems.
• Lead incident response efforts and drive post-incident reviews for systemic improvements.
• Define, measure, and improve SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
• Partner with engineering teams to improve service availability, scalability, performance, and resilience.
• Continuously improve observability through metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, and alerting.
• Develop software and automation using Go, Python, Terraform, and related technologies.
• Eliminate toil through automation and platform engineering.
• Build self-service platforms and improve developer velocity while maintaining reliability and security.
• Lead complex reliability initiatives and mentor engineers.
