Job summary

Shipt is seeking a Staff SRE to lead engineering-wide reliability, champion observability, and reduce systemic friction across distributed microservices. You will collaborate with Checkout, Logistics, Catalog, Search, and Shopper Experience teams to drive SLO-driven engineering and incident response improvements.

You will architect scalable infrastructure, build automation, and act as a technical escalation point during incidents while promoting blameless post-mortems and long-term remediation.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of engineering experience
• 5+ years running complex microservices at scale on Kubernetes within cloud environments (AWS and/or GCP)
• Fluent in at least one modern language used for system tooling and backend services
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform, Helm, and GitOps workflows (ArgoCD, Flux)
• Observability stacks experience with Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry
• Networking & Edge Security fundamentals (TCP/IP, HTTP/2, gRPC, service meshes like Istio/Linkerd)

Responsibilities

• Architect system resilience and modern observability across distributed microservices
• Build automated tooling and self-service infrastructure for safe deployment and reliable monitoring
• Lead blameless post-mortems focusing on root-cause elimination and automated recovery
• Serve as escalation point during critical incidents and drive multi-cloud/Kubernetes strategy
