Job description

This is a deeply technical product-facing role: you will own the design of end-to-end technical business flows that solve complex problems for our partners and internal business units. You will work between our product and engineering teams to define how a capability should actually behave — the steps, the data, the edge cases, and the exceptions — so that what gets built matches the business intent.

What you will work on

This role sits at the center of highest-priority technology initiatives. You will own technical business flow design across a portfolio that includes:

  • Global expansion – payment and onboarding flow patterns designed for reuse across 10+ new countries, accounting for regional business rules and regulatory requirements at scale
  • Multi-jurisdiction programs and accounts – onboarding and servicing solutions for foreign-national customers across multiple jurisdictions
  • Payments at scale – high-volume domestic and cross-border payment flows, including exception handling, reconciliation, and failure paths
  • Embedded finance – solution designs supporting new financial capabilities and deeper partner integrations
  • Agentic commerce – net-new solution design for an emerging, strategically important capability
  • Crypto and digital assets – net-new design work with specialized requirements alignment
  • A major international banking engagement spanning lending, onboarding, and payments
Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the product team to design technical business flows that solve business problems and support new feature development
  • Provide technical guidance to internal engineering teams based on product requirements from business units
  • Produce high-quality flow diagrams, sequence diagrams, and written requirements documentation that engineering can build directly from
  • Meet with external partner engineering teams during sales and integration calls to answer technical questions about our platforms
  • Perform UAT testing on certain new system modules and complex feature sets
  • Assist with various special projects and vendor integrations
  • Contribute to product backlog grooming sessions with product managers and engineering teams
  • Design payment and onboarding flow patterns intended for reuse across multiple countries and regulatory regimes, rather than one-off per-market solutions
  • Partner with Product, Compliance, and Legal to translate multi-jurisdictional regulatory requirements into workable solution designs

Note on scope: this team owns the design of technical business flows — how a capability behaves end to end, and how business and technical requirements line up. System architecture, technology selection, and infrastructure design are owned by our engineering teams, who you will partner with closely.

Senior or Staff level

This role is posted at both Senior and Staff level. We will level the role based on your experience and skill set.

Qualifications:
  • 7+ years in technical roles, including at least 3 years designing how complex systems should behave — as a technical product manager, solution architect, business systems analyst, integration engineer, or in a similar capacity
  • A hands-on technical foundation deep enough to read code, API specifications, and database schemas, and to hold your own in a design debate with senior engineers
  • Working knowledge of message-based systems and how business flows execute across them
  • Hands on experience with SQL
  • Experience designing end-to-end flows for a complex transactional domain, including edge cases, exception paths, and failure handling
  • Highly self-directed — comfortable operating with minimal supervision in ambiguous, loosely defined problem spaces
  • Excellent analytical and organization skills
  • An ability to understand complex business requirements and a problem-solving attitude
  • A demonstrated ability to learn unfamiliar domains quickly — you enjoy going deep on a new business or technical area and can become conversant enough to design in it in weeks, not months
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills — much of what you produce is written, and it has to be unambiguous
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with payments — card, ACH, wire, real-time payments, or cross-border rails
  • Experience defining requirements or flows spanning multiple countries or regulatory jurisdictions
  • API design – defining and reasoning about API and webhook contracts, including resource modeling, idempotency, versioning, and error semantics
  • Relational databases and data modeling – how data is structured, moved, and reconciled across systems
  • Distributed, messaging-based systems – asynchronous and event-driven flows, including ordering, retries, idempotent consumers, and eventual consistency
  • Experience with banking or related field
  • Exposure to crypto/digital assets, embedded finance, or AI-driven and agentic commerce
  • Familiarity with cross-border payments standards and messaging, such as ISO 20022 or SWIFT
  • Experience driving alignment across product, engineering, and compliance stakeholders without formal authority
